Grace Tait
Grace Tait is the Associate Director of Indigenous Initiative and Engagement for YWCA Metro Vancouver. She has over 30 years of experience working in non-profit management, community development, and grassroots organizing.
Grace began working with parents and children in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES) neighbourhood through grassroots efforts to find supports for families. During the early 1990s, parents in the DTES formed Children Need Care Now (CNCN) to advocate for more affordable and quality childcare spaces in response to the closure of their local daycare. Grace was instrumental in forming CNCN and establishing the DTES Community Action Program for Children (CAPC) in collaboration with RayCam Co-Operative Centre and YWCA Crabtree Corner. CNCN provided parent-led voluntary daycare at RayCam and other supports for families experiencing challenges in the community. Grace eventually returned to YWCA Crabtree Corner as Associate Director, where she was proud to offer a range of supports for women and their families in the DTES, including food security programs, transitional housing, FASD support, and emergency daycare.
